NATTSAND FEATURING MARTIN RUBASHOV
Nattsand was the second song I wrote for the album that became Outlived (album opener Muhit al Ahlam was the first), and believe it or not, I was trying to scale down the drama of my previous musical compositions. To me, the song has a lot of tension that gets released and winded back up throughout the song to the very end. Even the end feels to me unexpected and almost unnatural, like being woken up suddenly from an intense, dark dream. This tension is beautifully balanced by Martins Rubashov's amazingly soothing Swedish Language vocals. He leads us through the song like Virgil leads Dants through the 7 circles of Hell itself. Nattsand was in fact the first song from Outlived which I got back with vocals, and Martin set the standard high for the rest of the album. he understood what the music called for, both in his vocal delivery and in the lyrical content, with the lyrics dealing with dark dreams and how to navigate through them. Again Martin takes on the role of Virgil, the guide who leads us through to the end. This is a subtle mix of darkwave, industrial, alternative rock and goth. Guðmundur Óli Pálmason – Kuggur Kuggur.
lyrics
’Nattsand’
Lyrics Martin Boman
” Se på dem som sovande lik
Ingen är den andre lik
Så nära livet i en ytlig sömn
Sträck på dig. Vakna till en riggad lögn
Led dom bort från svarta minnen. Låt dom fly in i nattvinden.
Fånga elden innan den dör. Håll den stadigt i famnen
Lugn i stormen. Lämna allt som förgör. Lär dig tyda spåren i sanden.”
English version
’Night sand’
”Look at them like sleeping corpses
No one is the same
So close to life in a shallow sleep.
Wake up to a rigged lie.
Lead them away from dark memories. Let them fly into the night wind.
Catch the fire before it dies. Hold it firmly in your arms.
Calm down. Leave all that destroys.
Learn to decipher the tracks in the sand.”
